Severe Truck Accident on Highway 30 in Potter
POTTER, NEBRASKA - A news article published on newschannelnebraska.com reports that an accident on Highway 30 caused life-threatening injuries to two people.*
The two accident victims were air evacuated by medical helicopter to a local area trauma center. The area was closed to traffic for approximately two hours.
The Potter Fire Department answered the emergency accident call at around 1:30 PM. Eleven firefighters responded with five pieces of emergency equipment.
Public Information Officer Bob Hilpert reported that a tractor-trailer truck accident struck a sedan that was transporting two passengers. The crash occurred just outside of Potter. Hilpert stated that the "Jaws of Life" was needed to extract the car's occupants. The passengers were transported to Scottsbluff Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
The semi-tractor-trailer truck driver was transported to Kimball County Hospital in a private motor vehicle.
Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office is leading the accident investigation, and the Potter Fire Department stayed at the accident scene until 3:45 PM. The assisting agencies include the Cheyenne County Sheriff's Office, Nebraska State Patrol, Nebraska State Fire Marshal's Office, Region West EMS, Cheyenne County Road Department, and the Nebraska Department of Road. Hilpert also reported that an off-duty medic who was passing through town stopped to assist.
