Severe Bus Accident on I-20 Eastbound in Douglas County

DOUGLAS COUNTY, GEORGIA - An accident article published on states that all traffic lanes on Interstate 20 in Douglas County were closed down due to a severe bus accident.*

According to Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the Georgia State Patrol responded to the bus accident and brought all of the adults and children on the bus to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Douglas County Sheriff's Office deputies stated that another bus was called out to pick up the accident victim. The school bus was traveling from Birmingham, Alabama. 

According to Georgia State Patrol, the bus is operated by and owned by a Birmingham daycare. The children on the bus were treated for accident-related injuries that were non-life-threatening. The Georgia State Patrol stated that the accident occurred when a Honda Civic failed to reduce its speed and struck the rear driver's side. The Honda Civic driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of accident-related injuries, the Georgia State Patrol said.

This bus accident transpired on Interstate 20 just before the Lee Road Exit, the Georgia Department of Transportation reported. The crash involved "multiple vehicles."

Interstate 20 traffic cameras showed that one far left lane was reopened shortly after the accident. The Georgia Department of Transportation reported that they would continue to urge drivers to use a different route around the crash.
