Tragic, Fatal Four-Vehicle Accident in Douglas County, Georgia
DOUGLAS COUNTY, GEORGIA - An accident article published on wsbtv.com states that a Fairburn police sergeant was tragically killed in a severe motor vehicle accident in Douglas County, Georgia.* The accident also seriously injured two additional people. According to the news report, firefighters were called to the four-vehicle accident on Capps Ferry Road, about one mile south of Highway 166. The crash happened at around 8 AM.
One witness to the accident stated that they heard three loud crashes. The witness stated that he left his house and ran directly to Caps Ferry Road, where he witnessed the devastating accident scene. He stated that he witnessed one accident victim lying on the ground with a broken ankle. The victim was talking on a cell phone. Another accident victim remained in their black car and wasn't moving, according to the witness.
The Georgia State Patrol confirmed that a 54-year-old police officer was operating an unmarked Fairburn Police Department Dodge Charger. The unmarked patrol vehicle was heading northbound when it struck a GMC pickup truck on its left side. The crash forces pushed the GMC pickup truck into the northbound traffic lanes, and the truck hit an Audi SUV. The Dodge Charger traversed the median line and into the southbound traffic lane, where it struck a second pickup truck head-on.
The officer was tragically pronounced deceased at the accident scene. The other accident injury victims were transported to local area hospitals, and they are all expected to recover.
Mayor Mario B. Avery stated that the city is heartbroken due to the tragic loss, and the city lost a hero. The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the fatal accident with injuries. No other details about the accident have been released at this time.
