The patient died from the accident injuries she sustained in the log truck crash. Law enforcement officers state that the Gold Cross ambulance EMS driver was at fault for the fatal accident.

The police reported that the 22-year-old Gold Cross ambulance driver allegedly missed the entrance to Putnam General Hospital. The driver then tried to turn around but was struck by the log truck. The accident was a t-bone type of collision. The motor vehicle crash happened at approximately 3 PM at the intersection of Georgia Route 44 and Georgia Route 16.

Eatonton Police Department's Sergeant Harold Bowman reported that the victim was from Eatonton. First responders with Putnam County Emergency Medical Services and Eatonton Fire Rescue treated her at the accident scene. She was then transported to the Putnam General Hospital's emergency room where she tragically passed away.

None of the three other accident victims were hurt, including the log truck driver and the ambulance personnel. The fatal accident investigation, conducted by Sergeant Bowman, found that the Gold Cross ambulance was hit by a truck loaded with a full load of logs.

After the accident, the ambulance driver stated to ambulance driver police officers that he checked on the victim, who was secured in the patient area of the ambulance. The driver said that he removed the victim from the ambulance and started CPR on her.

The ambulance driver has been criminally charged with failure to yield and vehicular homicide in the second degree. The driver turned himself into Eatonton Police Department headquarters and was taken to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, where he was booked into jail. He has been released on bail.
