Tragic, Fatal Drunk Driving Car Accident in Lakewood
LAKEWOOD - According to an online news story published on nj1015.com, law enforcement responded to a two-vehicle accident along South Lake Drive near East Lake Park Drive.*
The report also states that a 20-year-old drunk driver was speeding when his vehicle swerved into the path of another motor vehicle, causing a fatal head-on collision in Lakewood. The Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer reported that the victim was a 44-year-old woman who was driving in her lane during the collision.
The at-fault driver, a man from Lakewood has been allegedly charged with vehicular homicide, aggravated manslaughter, aggravated assault, strict liability vehicular homicide, and assault by auto. He has also been allegedly charged with motor vehicle offenses of reckless driving, driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane, and speeding. The driver was accused of speeding at approximately 90 miles an hour in his Chevrolet Impala. At some point, his vehicle crossed over the double yellow lanes and crashed head-on with the victim's Toyota RAV-4. The road's speed limit is 35 MPH. The victim was tragically declared dead at a local area hospital. Her passenger is listed in stable medical condition at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.
The alleged drunk driver was given a blood-alcohol test at the hospital, and the test showed the driver had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.215%, which is nearly three times the legal limit. He is being held at the Ocean County Jail.
