Northwest Georgia Wreck Involves Two Alabama Drivers

The Floyd County Police stated that a Dodge Caravan operated by a 56-year-old man from Collinsville, Alabama, was heading southbound on Highway 411. As the driver approached Bagwell Road, the man was blinded by the sun and accidentally crossed the highway's center line. The man's van then collided with a northbound tractor-trailer truck.
The accident report states that the motor vehicles then left the highway. The fuel tank trailer on the truck detached and caught on fire. One of the tractor-trailer truck's tires caught fire due to the truck's overheated brakes. The Floyd County Police officers happened to be nearby, and they quickly responded to the accident scene. The officers emptied three fire extinguishers to put out the fire. The tractor-trailer truck driver, a female from Putman, was taken to Atrium Health Floyd. She sustained accident-related injuries.
The other driver declined to be transported to a local area hospital and was ticketed for Failure to Maintain a Lane. This truck accident is currently under investigation by the Floyd County Sheriff's Office. No other criminal charges were filed in the incident at this time.
