New Details Released Concerning the Multi-vehicle Accident on Interstate-95 in Kingsland, Georgia

July 13, 2022

KINGSLAND, GEORGIA - An accident article published on actionnewsjax.com states that Action News Jax obtained an accident report concerning the multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 95, north of the Florida-Georgia state line.*

The accident report states that the Georgia State Patrol released new details concerning the events that up to the pileup that shut down the interstate for several hours. The motor vehicle accident involved six motor vehicles, including a truck hauling a utility trailer and an 18-wheeler truck.

The accident report also stated that the driver of the 18-wheeler truck caused both motor vehicles to jackknife. The jackknifed tractor-trailer truck crossed and blocked all of the interstate's southbound traffic lanes. The truck also split the guardrails that divide the northbound and southbound traffic lanes, causing four additional motor vehicles to crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer truck was identified as a man from Newport News, Virginia.

Accident investigators stated that the 43-year-old truck driver stated that he was being tailgated, and the driver in the car he was behind slammed on the brakes, causing him to lose control of the 18-wheeler. However, the accident report and the onboard dashcam video from the tractor-trailer truck showed that there were no vehicles in front of the 18-wheeler at the time of the accident.

Another motorist told accident investigators that he was struck by a "semi out of nowhere." Other motorists stated that they could not avoid the 18-wheeler truck after it breached the guardrails.

Four accident victims were tragically killed in the accident, and several other accident victims were hospitalized.

The 18-wheeler truck driver was arrested by the Camden County Sheriff's Office. He has been charged with several criminal charges, including following too closely, possession of drugs or alcohol while on duty, attempted vehicular homicide, and possession of an open container. He is currently being held at the Camden County Jail.
