Tragic, Fatal Tractor-Trailer Truck Accident in Clayton County, Georgia
CLAYTON COUNTY, GEORGIA - According to an online accident news report published on 11alive.com, one person was injured, and another person tragically lost their life in a severe tractor-trailer accident in Clayton County, Georiga.*
The accident report states that the tractor-trailer truck crashed into a car that was stopped along the shoulder of I-675 North at Anvil Block Road. The massive collision closed down all interstate traffic lanes in the proximity of the crash.
The Clayton County Police reports the passenger vehicle had been occupied by two people prior to the crash. However, the driver left the car and was standing outside of the vehicle when she and her motor vehicle was struck by the tractor-trailer truck, law enforcement officers said.
According to accident investigators, eyewitnesses watched the tractor-trailer truck weaving in and out of traffic before crashing into the driver. After the truck struck the woman, the trucker tried to recover control of his tractor-trailer, but the truck jack-knifed the trailer blocking all I-675 North traffic lanes when the truck came to a stop.
The sedan's driver, a 31-year-old woman, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the accident, and her passenger, a child, was transported to a local area hospital for treatment of their accident-related injuries, according to the Clayton County Police. Law enforcement officers noted that the truck driver did not seem to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Law enforcement believes fatigue to be the major contributor to the accident, the Clayton County Police reported. The tractor-trailer truck driver was arrested and charged with failure to maintain a lane and vehicular homicide, according to police. The truck accident is currently under investigation by the Clayton County Police. No additional information about the victims and the accident has been made public at this time.
