Woman Tragically Killed After 14-Year-Old Hits Her Home With a Car
According to an accident news report published on AJC.com, a woman was tragically killed when a motor vehicle crashed through her house at two in the morning.*
The 14-year-old boy was allegedly trying to evade law enforcement and was being pursued by police, according to the Coweta County Sheriff's Office. The victim's husband survived the incident. The Coweta County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the police pursuit reached speeds over 130 MPH.
A Coweta County Sheriff's Office deputy first faced the suspect at approximately two in the morning. The deputy was patrolling the area of Johnson Road and Highway 54, the Coweta County Sheriff's Office stated in a media release concerning the accident. The vehicle, an Acura 3.2 TL, did not dim its high-beam headlights, so the Coweta County Sheriff's deputy turned around to attempt a traffic stop. The vehicle then sped off, and the Coweta County Sheriff's deputy lost sight of the vehicle. As the Coweta County Sheriff's deputy resumed driving down Johnson Road, he witnessed someone standing in a yard, and the deputy asked the individual if they had seen a speeding car. The witness stated to the deputy they saw the vehicle, and they thought the car had crashed into their neighbor's house.
The Coweta County Sheriff's deputy drove to the house and then confirmed the car had smashed into the house. He also encountered the 14-year-old who he believed to have been driving. The Coweta County Sheriff's Office did not publish the identify the teenager.
Accident investigators believe that the Acura left the road, hit a fence, and then finally, the house. A woman and a man were inside their house at the time of the collision, and they were taken to a local area hospital. The wife tragically passed away. The Coweta County Sheriff's Office did not publish the identify the man or reveal his medical condition.
The teenager was transported to a hospital for a medical evaluation and he was transported to a youth detention center. He faces a criminal charge of homicide by vehicle and other traffic offenses.
Almost all of the house's facade was destroyed. At the accident scene, a mattress could be seen in the rubble.
Police published no additional details about how or why the 14-year-old took the vehicle and was operating the car at two in the morning. The motor vehicle crash is currently under investigation.
