Georgia State Patrol Investigating a Street Race Crash on I-85 in Northeast Atlanta
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - According to several news reports, including 11alive.com, the Georgia State Patrol is investigating a severe street race-related accident near Piedmont Road in Northeast Atlanta.*
The Georgia State Patrol reported that one of the drivers involved in the accident was "doing donuts" and then fled from Georgia State Patrol troopers. While racing away from law enforcement, the vehicle hit a person and then crashed into another motor vehicle. At least seven Georgia State Patrol troopers were investigating the street race.
Georgia State Patrol troopers shut down several streets close to the Buckhead neighborhood as the troopers investigated the accident. All traffic in the area was backed up from the Spring Buford Connector and Interstate 85 on-ramp. The report states that one mile stretch of road that leads toward Piedmont Road NE was closed off to traffic.
Troopers reported that the crash started with a street race by Piedmont Road. Photos in the news articles show the hood of one vehicle destroyed, and its airbags were deployed. Georgia State Patrol did not say how many people were injured or how many vehicles were involved. The crash is currently under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol
