Teen ATV Rider Killed After Car Knocks Her into the Path of Deputy's Vehicle

The news report states that her 17-year-old daughter was involved in a fatal ATV accident at the intersection of Blossom Drive and Barton Chapel Road in Augusta. The report states that the mother claims the driver of a Dodge Challenger was at fault for the collision. 

According to the victim's mother, the victim was an experienced ATV operator, was wearing her helmet, and was operating the ATV with its lights turned on. The victim's mother stated that her daughter was obeying the rules of the road and was waiting for traffic to open up so that she could cross a street. Her ATV was struck by the vehicle as she waited for the traffic to clear.

According to Augusta's Commissioner Alvin Mason there are not enough streetlights in the area, and the city needs to add more lights to the area. He also believes that Barton Chapel Road is a "death trap," and if the city added traffic signals and speed bumps, the area would be a lot safer.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the fatal crash, and the department has not released its accident report at this time. No further details have been made public at this time.
