Tragic Fatal Airplane Crash at Athens-Ben Epps Airport
ATHENS, GEORGIA - According to an online accident news report published on wsbtv.com, aviation officials are currently investigating a fatal airplane accident at the Athens-Ben Epps Airport.*
The Athens-Clarke County Police Department reported that the pilot who was flying the aircraft tragically passed away following the airplane crashing into a wooded area. The Athens-Clarke County Fire and Emergency Services Batallion Chief Nate Moss stated that the pilot took off at around 7 in the evening. During takeoff, the airplane began experiencing mechanical problems. The plane's pilot radioed to the tower for assistance.
The airplane then crashed in a wooded section by the intersection of Buddy Christian Way and Cherokee Road, according to Chief Nate Moss. The pilot has not been identified at this time. The size and type of aircraft he was flying were not identified.
