Calhoun Police Department Reports That a Helicopter Crashed in Calhoun, Georgia

GEORGIA - According to an accident news story published on, a helicopter crashed in Calhoun, Georgia.*

Local law enforcement officials from the Calhoun Police Department are reporting that a helicopter that was carrying two adults and two children crashed.  The Calhoun Police Department answered the call to a helicopter crash close to the El Nopal Restaurant off of Highway 53.  The crash occurred at around 4:50 PM, according to Calhoun Police Department's Chief of Police, Tony Pyle.

The pilot, who survived the accident, stated to authorities that the helicopter was attempting to lift off when the aircraft was "jostled by strong winds."  The helicopter was at an airfield close to the restaurant.  The pilot also reported that the helicopter struck a power line just before crashing into a building.

One witness stated that he was eating at the restaurant when the helicopter crashed.  He stated that several people in the restaurant quickly took action by running to the accident scene and rendering aid to the accident victims.  A father and his two children were initially freed from the wreckage prior to freeing the helicopter's pilot.  The witness stated that they had to cut the seatbelt to the pilot out of the wreckage.  

The Federal Aviation Administration is conducting an investigation into the accident.
