Worker Tragically Crushed By Bulldozer in Winter Haven, Florida

April 11, 2022

FLORIDA - An accident news article published on atlantablackstar.com states that a Florida man was tragically killed in what police state was a bulldozer accident.*

However, the news report states that the family is questioning law enforcement's belief the incident was an accident.  The family stated that their loved one was run over by a coworker shortly after an argument.  Now the family of the 40-year-old father of two is urging law enforcement to arrest and charge the bulldozer driver.  The victim's younger brother stated that the victim "didn’t deserve to die out there with all that trash.”

The victim was crushed by a bulldozer while he was inside a port-a-potty at the job site.  The victim was a spotter and was tasked with directing all of the dump trucks that were coming in and out of the North Central Landfill located in Winter Haven, Florida.  The victim was a new employee and was only on the job site for a few weeks.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office stated that the victim was ending his shift at about five in the evening and he went to use a port-a-potty at the landfill. That is when a  bulldozer driver moved the bulldozer to a designated parking area but ran over the port-a-potty while the victim was inside.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office stated that OSHA was contacted immediately and they believe it was a tragic accident.

The victim's family is also angry that the Polk County Sheriff’s Office was quick to rule that the victim’s death was an accident instead of conducting a criminal investigation.  The bulldozer driver chose to drive his bulldozer without a spotter and that decision may have been negligent since the driver may have deviated from OSHA guidelines leading to the victim's death.

A Polk County State Attorney's Office spokeswoman stated that the Polk County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating the victim's death.
