Three Women Tragically Killed in a Tractor-Trailer Truck Accident on I-85 in Midtown
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - According to a news report posted on ajc.com, a portion of Interstate-85 northbound was closed for over three hours due to a tractor-trailer truck accident.*
The accident news report states that three women were tragically killed when their motor vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer on Interstate-85 in Midtown, Atlanta.
Law enforcement authorities closed down a section of the northbound lanes as they attended to the crash victims and performed an investigation of the truck accident. The Atlanta police reacted to the truck accident scene that occurred north of the Buford Spring Connector. The crash happened at around 3:45 in the morning. Three occupants of the car tragically died at the accident scene, according to Atlanta Police spokesman Officer Steve Avery. Mr. Avery stated that the crash investigation unit began working on determining the reason for the accident, and charges in the accident have not been made as the investigation is ongoing.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office identified the three victims.
The tractor-trailer truck driver was not injured in the crash.
The northbound traffic lanes on I-85 in the area did not open until around 7:30 in the morning. All northbound lanes of I-85 were closed for more than three hours Friday while authorities worked the scene of a deadly crash. The accident caused severe traffic slow downs for all other downtown Atlanta interstates.
