Coweta County High-speed Chase Puts Motorists at Risk
COWETA COUNTY, GEORGIA - According to an accident news report published on fox5atlanta.com, law enforcement officers stated that they had to shoot the driver of a tractor-trailer truck while on a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 85.*
The officers claimed they shot the driver because the trucker was putting other motorists in danger. The truck driver allegedly took the tractor-trailer truck and used the 18-wheeler truck to target other motor vehicles.
According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the truck driver, a 56-year-old man, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital with accident-related injuries.
All traffic was shut down on Interstate 85 by Sharpsburg McCollum Road for approximately three hours following the incident, while police handled the scene and cleared the interstate. Traffic lanes along the interstate were shut down until 6 PM.
According to the news report, the driver of a stolen 18-wheeler would not stop as Sheriff's deputies attempted to pull him over on Interstate 85 in Coweta County, Georiga. The driver allegedly started to crash into other motorists intentionally. That is when Sheriff's deputies began to open fire on the truck driver.
The driver sustained three gunshot wounds. One of the bullets hit his spinal cord, leading him to become paralyzed. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is reviewing the use of deadly force. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation turned over its findings to the district attorney, who believes the use of deadly force was justifiable.
