Fatal Rear-end Truck Accident in Milledgeville, Georgia

MILLEDGEVILLE, GEORGIA - A news story published on 13wmaz.com reports that a tragic, fatal truck accident occurred at an intersection in Milledgeville, Georgia.*  

According to  Georgia State Patrol, the victim's Toyota Yaris was rear-ended by a large semi-truck. GSP reported that the accident occurred when the truck driver fell asleep and collided with the victim's Toyota.  

The truck driver received two citations for fatigued driving and following too closely.  On Monday evening, the truck driver's criminal charges were upgraded to 2nd-degree homicide by vehicle.  He was also charged with failure to obey a traffic control device, violation of DPS rules (driving fatigued), and following too closely.

According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, the truck and the Toyota were traveling northbound in the left lane along North Columbia Street.  GSP stated that the victim, a 24-year-old woman from Fayetteville, was stopped at the intersection's traffic light when the semi-truck rear-ended her vehicle.  The crash impact caused the victim's car to be lodged underneath the truck's front.  The truck pushed the car into a fire hydrant before the vehicles entered a convenience store parking lot.

The news report, the truck driver admitted to falling asleep while operating the truck. 

According to Foster Hurt, the Baldwin County Deputy Coroner, the victim passed away at around 1 PM Saturday.  She died as a result of her accident-related injuries.

The Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating the fatal truck accident.  No additional details were provided at this time.
