Georgia Highway Patrol Investigates a Deadly Car Accident Involving a Richmond County Sheriff’s Patrol Car

AUGUSTA, GEORGIA - The Georgia State Patrol is leading a fatal pedestrian accident investigation involving a man in a wheelchair and a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office car.*  

GSP is handling the fatal accident investigation since a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office car was involved in the collision.  The pedestrian accident occurred last Saturday night in the Peach Orchard Road area.

The report states that the victim was identified as a 59-year-old man who lived on Byrd Road.  The accident victim was attempting to cross Peach Orchard in his wheelchair when the man was hit by a different motor vehicle.

The news story states that the victim was tragicaly thrown into the northbound traffic lanes.  He was then hit by a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle.  The victim tragically pronounced dead on the accident scene.

According to the report, an autopsy will be performed at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation lab.
