All I-16W Traffic Lanes Closed Due to Tragic, Fatal Accident in Laurens County, Georgia
DUBLIN, GEORGIA - According to a news article posted on 13wmaz.com, all traffic lanes along I-16 West in Laurens County were closed following a fatal motor vehicle accident.*
Department of Public Safety Lieutenant W. Mark Riley reported that the crash occurred around 12:12 PM. Georgia State Patrol Post 20 was summoned to investigate the accident involving three tractor-trailer trucks.
The preliminary accident investigation stated that traffic was moving slowly in the area of the crash. Traffic was redirected to the left lane near mile marker 39.
The report states that a truck driver in one of the tractor-trailers did not see traffic was slowed down ahead of him. He then veered to avoid a collision but rear-ended another 18-Wheeler and then struck a second tractor-trailer in the rear. One of the tractor-trailer trucks burst into fire and the truck driver sustained fatal accident-related injuries.
Lieutenant Riley stated that the fatal accident is currently under investigation. Georgia Department of Transportation reported that all traffic lanes were reopened after a few hours.
