Five People Tragically Killed in a Hot Air Balloon Accident
NEW MEXICO - According to a news article published on abqjournal.com, federal officials released a report concerning a hot air balloon accident at Unser and Central that tragically killed five people.*
The autopsy reports revealed that all five passed away due to blunt force trauma. The autopsy reports recently released by the Office of the Medical Investigator show that the pilot and four passengers suffered skull fractures, multiple broken bones, and blood in their lungs and chest. Their deaths have been declared an accident.
One of the victims received the balloon ride as a going-way gift. She along with her husband and a couple they were friends with, joined them on the ride.
At approximately seven in the morning, the hot air balloon struck power lines, cut the lines, and then caught fire. The ballon crashed onto the ground bt a West Central intersection.
A toxicology report concluded that the pilot had both cocaine and marijuana in his system at the time of the crash. Those conclusions were submitted to Federal Aviation Administration.
