Toddler Tragically Killed in a Motor Vehicle Accident in North Chicago
CHICAGO - A news story published on chicagotribune.com reports that a toddler has been tragically killed in a rear-end car accident.*
The child was traveling with his parents in North Chicago when their car was rear-ended, the Lake County coroner stated. Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified the victim as 1-year-old from Lithia Springs, Georgia.
According to the accident report, the child, and his 28-year-old father, and his 26-year-old mother were stopped at a red light along Illinois Route 41 at Buckley Road. At some point, the family's Jeep SUV was rear-ended by a Toyota 4-Runner. The fatal accident occurred at around 4:15 in the morning.
Law enforcement authorities stated that the toddler was sitting in a child safety seat in the backseat of the vehicle.
All the accident victims were transported to Lake Forest Hospital. The small child was tragically pronounced deceased. The preliminary autopsy report states that the child's cause of death was blunt force trauma. The accident investigation is ongoing with the North Chicago Police, the coroner, and the county's Major Crash Assistance Team.
