Ambulance Driver Allegedly Charged with DUI After Causing a Fatal Accident Involving a Patient
GEORGIA - According to an online news story published on Macon.com, an ambulance driver is accused of allegedly causing a fatal accident and then fleeing the scene of that deadly crash.*
The ambulance driver has been criminally charged with driving under the influence following an accident. The ambulance driver may be facing additional criminal charges after the patient he was transporting passed away as a result of the accident.
According to the Georgia Department of Public Safety's press release, the 66-year-old patient was riding in the ambulance unrestrained when the vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a ditch. The patient died as a result of the accident.
The preliminary report states that the ambulance crashed at around 7:30 in the evening on West Campbellton Street in Fairburn, Georgia. The ambulance driver was given a sobriety test at the accident site. The 34-year-old driver was arrested, charged, and processed into the Fulton County Jail. He is facing criminal charges of vehicular homicide, DUI - Less Safe, failure to maintain lane, and possession of an open container. Law enforcement officials stated that the driver was driving in a "non-emergency" capacity at the moment of the accident.
