Tragic, Fatal Greenville County Accident White Horse Road in Greenville, South Carolina

November 11, 2021

GREENVILLE, SC - A news article published on foxcarolina.com reports that a man was arrested following a fatal motor vehicle accident that tragically took the life of a seven-year-old child.*  According to the report, the driver is suspected of driving while under the influence.  The accident was the result of a police chase with Greenville County deputies.

According to the Greenville County Coroner's Office, the victim was riding in the back seat in an SUV when the vehicle was hit head-on by a car that crossed into the SUV's traffic lane.

Sheriff Hobart Lewis reported that their agency's deputies initially stopped the suspect when they saw the muffler on his car dragging on the road under his car and producing sparks.  After the deputies spoke with the suspect, they concluded that he was driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.  Sheriff's deputies asked the suspected intoxicated driver to "put the car in park and to not go anywhere."  However, the deputy's bodycam video footage shows the suspect driving off and running red lights.

Dashcam footage showed the deputy's car appearing at the accident scene where the suspect crashed into an SUV.  The Sheriff's deputy jumped out of his vehicle, called for EMS, and then performed CPR on the 7-year-old child.

The suspect was declared dead at the accident scene by the coroner's office.  The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating this crash.
