Tragic, Fatal Head-on, Wrong-way Collision on I-84 in Payette County Kills Two People
IDAHO - A news report published on idahostatesman.com reports that two people from Idaho were tragically killed in a head-on collision on Interstate 84 in Payette County, Idaho.*
The accident report states that the Idaho State Police were informed of the collision at around 8 in the evening. The accident occurred near Mile Marker 12.5 by New Plymouth, the Idaho State Patrol reported in their news release.
Idaho State Police troopers responded to the accident began their accident investigation. The ISP report states that a 79-year-old woman was heading eastbound along Interstate-84. At some point, her Ford SUV passed over the interstate's median and into the westbound traffic lanes. Two approaching vehicles, a Honda and a Nissan attempted to avoid the Ford. The Honda rear-end the Nissan.
The report states that the woman's SUV continued in the wrong direction for about a mile until she struck a Mitsubishi car head-on. The Mitsubishi car was being operated by a 25-year-old woman from Parma. Troopers reported that she tragically died at the scene of the accident. All drivers involved in the accidents had their seat belts on at the time of the crash.
The ISP issued a second media release stating that the 79-year-old woman in the Ford SUV passed away at a local hospital.
The Idaho State police did not release the names of the two deceased women. The eastbound lanes were closed for about three hours, according to ISP. The incident is currently under investigation.
