Alleged Drunk Driver Causes a Fatal Accident on GA 17
GEORGIA - A news report published on nowhabersham.com reports that a Gainesville driver has been arrested and criminally charged with DUI and first-degree vehicular homicide after allegedly causing the tragic death of a woman from White County, Georiga.*
The driver, a 60-year-old man, was operating his Ford F150 pickup truck Southbound along GA 17 by Fred Pitts Road in Habersham County, Georgia. The accident occurred around 5:50 in the evening. The pickup truck allegedly jumped the shoulder of the road, hit a driveway trench, and then flipped over.
According to the news report, a passenger in the pickup truck, a 51-year-old Cleveland woman, tragically passed away as a result of the crash.
Georgia State Patrol Post 7 Assistant Commander Luke Mize reported that law enforcement officers investigated the accident and discovered the driver was driving under the influence. The driver was taken to Habersham Medical for medical treatment and he was later released into police custody.
Georgia State Patrol troopers also charged the driver with Failure to Maintain Lane. Additional criminal charges may be filed. The Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is helping in the investigation.
