Tragic, Fatal Twiggs County Accident on GA 96 at I-16

JEFFERSONVILLE, GEORGIA - A news article published on 41nbc.com reports that the Georgia State Patrol has published its findings from its preliminary investigation regarding a fatal accident that transpired in Twiggs County last Monday.*  That accident closed down all traffic lanes on GA 96 at I-16.

The Georgia State Patrol communicated that the accident occurred at around 12:45 in the afternoon and involved two motor vehicles. The first motor vehicle presented by the Georgia State Patrol was a Chevrolet Malibu car that was traveling Eastbound on State Route 96.  The second vehicle involved in the accident was a "Freightliner single unit truck," which was traveling the West on State Route 96.

According to the Georgia State Patrol's preliminary accident investigation, the agency reported that the car traveled over the highway's centerline and into the Westbound lane.  The Freightliner truck attempted to swerve to the right and ran off of the road to prevent striking the car.  However, the truck and the car collided head-on, and the car spun to a stop. The Freightliner crashed halfway into a ditch on the shoulder of GA 96.

The Georgia State Patrol reported that the driver of the car, a 29-year-old man from Swainsboro, passed away from his accident-related injuries at the accident scene.
