Road Rage Shooting on Georgia Southern's Campus

STATESBORO, GEORGIA - A news report published on walb.com states that the Georgia Southern University Police are continuing to investigate a shooting that occurred close to Kennedy Hall on the Statesboro campus.*  According to Georgia Southern University Police, no one involved in the shooting is affiliated with Georgia Southern.

Georgia Southern University Police stated that information developed from the investigation reveals that the shooting was a result of a road rage incident.  According to police, an off-campus accident at Georgia Avenue and Lanier Drive intersection led to the road rage shooting. 

The victim attempted to flee the assailant's pursuit by turning his car onto a road that brought him onto campus.  However, the assailant followed the victim and fired shots at the victim's automobile by Kennedy Hall.  The assailant then fled the campus. The victim sustained injuries during the attack but did not get hit by the gunfire.

University leaders stated that open roads surrounding the campus bring traffic. According to university spokesperson Jennifer Wise, the campus is not gated, and there is access. 

"Georgia Southern's Statesboro campus roadways connect to roadways in and out of the community.
