Tragic, Fatal Motor Vehicle Accident on GA Loop 1 in Polk County, Georgia

The victim, an 84-year-old man, was pronounced deceased at the accident scene by Polk County Coroner Norman Smith. According to the news report, the Dodge Dakota pick-up truck that the victim was driving was struck by a tractor-trailer truck. The accident location was at the intersection of GA Loop 1 and Fairgrounds Road.
According to the Georgia State Patrol's report, the Dodge Dakota was heading northbound on the bypass as the tractor-trailer truck was moving southbound. A third vehicle, a Dodge Ram 3500 that was hauling a flatbed trailer, was in the right lane heading south beside the tractor-trailer truck. As the driver in the Dakota tried to turn left, he entered the tractor-trailer truck's traffic lane. The tractor-trailer truck driver swerved to avoid the Dakota. However, the truck collided with the Dodge Ram.
The tractor-trailer then left the west side of the roadway, re-entered the road, and then turned over on its side. The southbound traffic lanes were closed for several hours due to the accident investigation. No other accident information was provided by Georgia State Patrol.
