Tragic, Fatal Hit-and-run Pedestrian Collision in San Jose, California
SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA - A news report published on KTVU.com states that a woman was tragically killed in a hit-and-run collision at a San Jose intersection.* The intersection is notorious for fatal pedestrian collisions.
The news report states that the driver of the Mercedes that struck the 37-year-old woman fled the scene and "didn't check to see if she was alive or dead," stated the victim's mother. The victim's mother stated that she knew "nothing will bring [her] daughter back, but bringing the individual or individuals to justice is what we want."
The victim, a mother of five children, was in her wheelchair and attempting to navigate a crosswalk when she was struck at the area of Monterey Highway and Curtner Avenue. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries the following day. Law enforcement officers who are investigating the hit-and-run collision stated that the victim did everything right while she was attempting to cross the street.
According to San Jose Police Sergeant Christian Camarillo, the victim was crossing with the signal light. A motor vehicle drove through the intersection, collided with the victim in her wheelchair, and then fled the collision. Police officers released surveillance camera video footage showing a white Mercedes CLS moments before the collision. The police department also released a stock photo of the Mercedes. Sergeant Camarillo stated that this was the third fatal pedestrian accident at the intersection this year.
The San Jose Police reported that the suspect in the case was arrested the day of the collision.
