Serious Motor Vehicle Collision on I-16 in Chatham County, Georgia

CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA - A news article published on states that the Chatham Emergency Management has reported on a recent Interstate 16 accident.*  According to the news report, all eastbound traffic lanes along Interstate-16 from Dean Forest Road to Interstate-95 were shut down due to a severe motor vehicle collision with accident-related injuries.  

Emergency medical crews on the accident scene reported that three vehicles sustained “extensive“ damage in the multi-vehicle collision. A total of ten people, eight of which were taken to a local area hospital for medical treatment of accident-related injuries. Two of the accident victims were listed as in critical medical condition at the hospital. Two of the injured declined medical treatment at the accident scene. 

Local law-enforcement officers reported to the news agency that the van involved in an accident was taking developmentally disabled adults, and six of the ten transferred to the hospital were passengers in the van. The severe motor vehicle collision occurred last Wednesday at approximately one in the afternoon. The Georgia Department of Transportation reported that The accident scene was cleared by approximately 4 PM. 

Savannah Police, Chatham County Police, Georgia State Patrol, Savannah Fire Rescue, Pooler Fire Rescue, and Chatham Emergency Medical Services were all respondents to the severe motor vehicle collision. Motorists were redirected to alternative routes around the motor vehicle accident. The Georgia State Patrol will investigate The motor vehicle accident.
