Duluth Police Officer Injured in a Hit-and-Run Accident on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard
DULUTH, GEORGIA - A news article published on fox5atlanta.com reports that a Duluth Police officer was hospitalized following a serious motor vehicle accident.* According to law enforcement officials, at approximately 4 in the morning, the police officer was heading north on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard in a Duluth patrol vehicle.
As the police officer was progressing through a green light, at the Abbotts Bridge Road intersection, a Dodge Ram pickup truck hit the police vehicle. The Dodge Ram pickup truck was heading eastbound, accident investigators reported. Law enforcement authorities also confirmed that the Dodge's driver got out of the truck and fled the accident scene.
The Duluth Police Department blocked the traffic lanes along Peachtree Industrial Boulevard to work on the motor vehicle accident scene. The Duluth Police Department reported that the police officer is in critical but stable medical condition.
According to the Duluth Police, one of their officers located and arrested the suspect who was close to the scene of the accident.
The suspect has been identified as a 30-year-old man from Americus, Georgia. He was arrested and taken to the Gwinnett County Jail. He has been charged with several criminal charges such as reckless driving, DUI, failure to obey a traffic control device, felony hit and run, and felony serious injury by vehicle.
Police blocked lanes on Peachtree Industrial Boulevard at around 8 Aon Saturday morning. The Gwinnett County Police continue to investigate the accident.
