Richmond County Sheriff's Deputy Killed in Tragic Head-on Collision on Mike Padgett Highway

GEORGIA - A news article published on wjbf.com reports that the Richmond County Coroner's Office is currently investigating a deadly motor vehicle accident that happened last Wednesday night.*  The fatal accident transpired on Highway 56 by Moore Road in Richmond County, Georgia.  

The report states that a 34-year-old woman from Henry Circle was heading northbound along Highway 56.  At that moment, a Richmond County deputy was heading southbound along Highway 56.  The Richmond County Sheriff's deputy was responding to an emergency when the woman turned left and in front of the deputy's cruiser.

The Richmond County deputy was taken to Augusta University Medical Center.  Tragically he was pronounced dead at 9:15 that evening.  The Richmond County Coroner's Office reported that an autopsy had been scheduled.  There is no additional information provided at this time.  The names of those involved are being withheld pending the notification of the next of kin.
