Two People Injured in an Accident on U.S. 441/GA 15 in Habersham County
HABERSHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA - A news article published on nowhabersham.com reports that a female driver of a Nissan Sentra was severely injured after the tailgate from a pickup crashed through her car's windshield while she was stopped at a stop sign.*
The news report states that two other vehicles crashed on the highway in front of her and caused the truck's tailgate to fly off and collide with the woman's Nissan Sentra.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the woman was stopped at the intersection of U.S. 441/GA 15 and Antioch Church Road when the traffic accident happened in front of her. Georgia State Patrol Troopers reported that another driver, a 78-year-old woman from Toccoa, was heading westbound on Antioch in a GMC Canyon. The woman tried to cross both southbound traffic lanes of the highway but pulled into the path of a Nissan Altima that a 19-year-old woman from Rabun Gap was driving.
According to the accident report, the Altima hit the right rear of the GMC. The collision dislodged the GMC Canyon's tailgate and sending it flying and into the passenger cabin of the Nissan Sentra. The Sentra then rolled backward and collided with a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck that a 46-year-old man from Clarkesville was driving.
The driver of the GMC Canyon told the Georgia State Patrol Troopers that she did not see the Nissan Altima. The Nissa Altima driver stated that the woman's Canyon pickup truck entered her traffic lane, and she "had no time to react."
The Canyon pickup truck's tailgate crashed through the Nissan Sentra windshield, critically injuring the driver.
AirLife transported the Nissan's driver to the trauma unit at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. The Habersham EMS transported another accident victim to a local area hospital.
The severe motor vehicle accident temporarily closed down all traffic lanes of U.S. Highway 441/GA 15 at Antioch Church Road. U.S. Highway 441/GA 15 was reopened at around 1:40 PM. The Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating the accident, and criminal charges are pending.
