Man's Leg Severed in Tragic Motorcycle Accident in Toms River
TOMS RIVER, NEW JERSEY - A news article posted on 943thepoint.com reports that a Jackson man's leg was severed when his motorcycle was hit by an oncoming motor vehicle.*
The accident occurred at the intersection of Route 70 and Whitesville Road at approximately 11:30 am.
Toms River Police stated that a 25-year-old man from Jackson, was traveling eastbound along Route 70, on a Harley Davidson motorcycle. The motorcyclist had the green traffic signal when he suddenly collided with a man from Berkeley Township. The Berkeley Township driver turned left onto Whitesville Road in front of the man on his motorcycle.
According to Patrol Officer Bridget Badalis, the emergency medical service immediately placed two "life-saving tourniquets" on the motorcyclist's leg on the accident scene.
The motorcyclist's leg was badly severed during the accident, and once the tourniquets were applied, the victim was then flown to Jersey Shore Medical University for emergency, life-saving medical treatment.
Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Terry Warren is currently investigating the motorcycle accident. The driver was cited for Reckless Driving, having an Unregistered Vehicle, and Failure to Yield at an Intersection.
