Fatal Accident in the Southbound Lanes on I-85 in Gwinnett County, Georgia
GWINNETT COUNTY, GEORGIA - A news article published on fox5atlanta.com states that a deadly accident tragically killed a motorcyclist.*
The accident shut all of the southbound lanes along Interstate 85 in Gwinnett County, Georiga, for several hours. The accident occurred on Saturday afternoon, stated the Georgia Department of Transportation said. The motorcycle accident happened in Suwanee by the Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road off of Exit 111.
According to the Suwanee Police Department, a motorcyclist struck the rear of an SUV in the northbound HOV lane and close to the exit. The crash caused the motorcycle to fly into the air and over the median wall. The motorcycle then moved into traffic with the southbound lanes. The motorcycle then landed on a pickup truck.
Law enforcement authorities stated that the motorcyclist was later identified as a 36-year-old. The motorcyclist was tragically pronounced dead at the accident scene.
There were four occupants inside of the pickup truck how were injured and transported to medical facilities with serious injuries.
Georgia Department of Transportation stated that the motorcycle accident blocked all traffic lanes, including the HOV traffic lane.
Immediately following the motorcycle accident, traffic was redirected onto the exit ramp located at Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road. At around 5 PM, law enforcement officials reopened the roadway. There was no word of any possible criminal charges. The accident investigation continues.
