I-85 North Closed and Driver Hospitalized Following Two Severe Motor Vehicle Accidents in Atlanta, Georgia
ATLANTA, GEORGIA - A news article published on fox5atlanta.com reports that all northbound traffic lanes on I-85 North and the Downtown Connector were shut down for several hours following a pair of major motor vehicle accidents on Friday morning.* One of the motor vehicle accidents resulted in injuries, and that accident victim was transported to a local area hospital.
According to the Atlanta Police, the collision happened at around 4:30 AM. The accident report asserts that a Lamborghini stuck the rear driver's side of a Nissan Juke. The crash occurred in the northbound traffic lanes on I-85 by the Buford-Spring Connector. The driver of the Nissan Juke was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The driver was listed in critical medical condition.
The Lamborghini's driver was also transported to a local area hospital.
The traffic lane closures created significant delays around downtown Atlanta and up to the I-75/I-85 split. The Georgia Department of Transportation stated that the HOV lanes were also shut down so law enforcement officers could investigate and clear the accident.
At around 10 AM, the Atlanta police announced the crash had been cleared, and highway lanes were reopened. Law enforcement officers state that charges are pending, and the accident is under investigation.
