June 06, 2021

JACKSON COUNTY, GEORGIA - A news report posted on states that the Georgia State Patrol troopers from Athen's GSP Post 32 were dispatched to a fatal motor vehicle accident.*

The crash occurred at around 10:30 pm along U.S. Highway 441 by State Road 334.  The accident investigators discovered a 1971 Dodge Dart driven by a 46-year-old man from Lula, and his passenger, a 44-year-old woman from Danielsville, was traveling northbound along on 441.  According to the detectives, the driver "failed to yield the right-of-way to a southbound van" when the Dodge Dart driver was attempting to make a lefthand turn onto South Elm Street.

The van, driven by a 20-year-old woman from Commerce, crashed into the Dodge's passenger side, causing injuries to both occupants.  The couple in the Dodge was transported to the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia, the Georgia State Patrol stated.  The two accident victims tragically passed away at the hospital.  Neither the driver or passenger were wearing their seatbelts, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The 20-year-old woman from Commerce also sustained accident-related injuries.

"Troopers are investigating if alcohol was a factor in the crash," the GSP said Saturday afternoon.
