Man in Electric Wheelchair Struck and Killed by SUV in Cobb County, Georgia

COBB COUNTY, GA - A news article published on AJC.com reports that the Cobb County police are currently investigating a fatal pedestrian accident on Cooper Lake Road in Smyrna, Georgia.*  The Cobb County police are investigating after a man in an electric wheelchair was struck by an SUV and killed Friday afternoon.

The traffic accident occurred just after 1 p.m. on Cooper Lake Road between Mavell and King Springs roads, Cobb County Police spokesman Sergeant Wayne Delk stated in a media release. The pedestrian was identified as an 81-year-old man from Smyrna. He was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

According to the Cobb County police's initial investigation, the 84-year-old woman from Mableton was driving eastbound on Cooper Lake Road when she struck the man while he crossed in front of her Honda CRV. The fatal accident remains under investigation by law enforcement. No charges are expected.

Cooper Lake Road was closed down for several hours after the deadly accident. Those people who have information are asked to contact the Cobb police.
