Fatal Head-on Collision on the Georgia 138 Bridge in Monroe, Georgia
MONROE, GA - A news report published on covnews.com states that there are criminal charges are pending against a man from Covington man for his involvement in a fatal head-on accident along Georgia State Route 138 in Walton County that took the life of a 31-year-old man from Monroe, Georgia.* According to the news report, the fatal two-vehicle accident happened on the Alcovy River Bridge at around 6:45 in the morning.
According to the Georgia State Highway Patrol, a grey Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 57-year-old man from Covington, drove east along the bridge off of Georgia 138. The reports state that the man's motor vehicle allegedly crossed the centerline and entered the westbound lane of the victim's lane. The 57-year-old man's vehicle then struck the victim's black Ford Mustang head-on.
Tragically, the victim passed away at the scene of the accident. The suspect was transported to Piedmont Walton Hospital by Walton EMS. According to the Georgia State Patrol, the suspect sustained moderate injuries in the head-on accidents. The Georgia State Patrol initially did not believe that the suspect was driving impaired by drugs or alcohol. However, criminal charges are pending against the 57-year-old Covington man.
Highway 138 was shut down for several hours to give the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team time and space to adequately investigate the fatal accident scene.
According to Walton County Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Craig League, a hazmat crew was called in to contain oil and motor vehicle fluids from the accident and keep the chemical runoff from entering the river below.
