Speeding and Alcohol Causes the Death of One and Injuries to Two Others in Tampa, Florida
TAMPA, FL - A news report published on news4jax.com states that a driver who was already serving probation for a fatal traffic collision in 2014 was arrested last Sunday after causing another accident that tragically killed one of her passengers.*
Court records show that the driver, a 24-year-old woman, was on probation due to a fatal accident she caused when she was sixteen years old. According to the news report, a Florida Highway Patrol trooper clocked the driver speeding at 111 mph on a highway close to Interstate 4 in Tampa, Florida.
The trooper attempted to overtake the woman's car, but the driver performed a hard right turn that caused her Hyundai Elantra to leave the highway and slide down an embankment. The woman's car then went airborne, struck a light pole, and then a palm tree. The woman's car then overturned into the parking lot of an auto dealership.
Tragically, the 19-year-old front-seat passenger was thrown into the backseat of the car, and the two rear-seat passengers were ejected from the automobile. All of the passengers were transported to a local area hospital, and a 22-year-old passenger tragically passed away due to her accident injuries.
According to the accident report, the driver was the only person in the motor vehicle wearing a seat belt. She sustained minor injuries. The driver was arrested later and was charged with DUI involving a serious injury, reckless driving involving a serious injury, driving without a license, DUI manslaughter, and multiple counts of DUI property damage.
