Deadly Pedestrian Accident on Hwy 17 in Savannah, Georgia (GA)
SAVANNAH, GA - A news report on WSAV.com states that law enforcement authorities identified the pedestrian struck and killed by a motor vehicle last Wednesday morning on Highway 17.* The fatal pedestrian accident on Highway 17 took the life of a 43-year-old woman.
Law enforcement authorities did find and arrest the suspect in the fatal accident, a 45-year-old man. The driver is facing criminal charges, including Failure to report an Accident and Hit & Run resulting in Death.
According to Georgia State Patrol troopers, their officers responded to the pedestrian accident scene on Highway 17 by Fountain Road at approximately 6:30 AM.
The Georgis State Patrol stated that the victim was struck by a motor vehicle heading southbound along Highway 17 in the southbound lanes.
The accident investigator arrived at the fatal accident scene to discover the victim was already deceased and the at-fault vehicle had fled the scene.
Georgis State Patrol discovered that the driver parked his motor vehicle next to a business south of the scene of the accident and was driven away by an unknown person.
The Georgis State Patrol stated that the suspect went home and told his sister-in-law, the vehicle's owner. He stated that he was in an accident, and the woman contacted 911 to report his accident. The Chatham County Police Department arrived at the home. The suspect was cooperative and admitted to law enforcement that he hit the pedestrian and left the accident scene because he didn't have a license, and he was scared.
