Tragic Fatal Boating Accident in Evans County, Georgia (GA)
EVANS COUNTY, GA - A news article posted on wtoc.com reports that a man was tragically killed in a boating accident Thursday evening in the Canoochee River in Evans County, Georgia.*
According to the Evans County Sheriff's Office, the accident happened at approximately 6:45 PM. The Fire and Rescue crews and Evans County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a fatal boat accident on the Canoochee River by the Rocks River Landing. Once the Sheriff's deputies arrived, public safety learned that a boat with three fishermen overturned east of the landing. Two of the three fishermen have been accounted for.
The Evans County Sheriff's Office stated that they requested the assistance of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, who usually respond to the boating accident with a boat and rescue equipment, and a search of the river was conducted.
Members of Evans County Fire and Rescue discovered the body of the third fisherman by where the boat had overturned. The deceased fisherman was identified as a 61-year-old man from Evans County, Georgia.
The joint investigation by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Evans County Sheriff's Office is still ongoing.
