Deadly Chain-Reaction Accident on I-75 in Cobb County, Georgia

COBB COUNTY, GA - An accident news story on fox5atlanta.com states that one person was tragically killed in a chain-reaction accident that involved approximately twenty motor vehicles.*  The accident closed down the northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Cobb County, Georgia, on Thursday morning.  Also, the I-75 Express lanes were shut down between  Chastain Road and Barrett Parkway. 

The Cobb County Police Department spokesperson Sergeant Wayne Delk stated the county's 911 Emergency Center had received an emergency call at approximately 11:10 in the morning. The 9/11 caller stated that a large accident had happened north of Barrett parkway on the ramp.

Emergency first responders arrived at the accident scene and discovered that one motor vehicle was stacked on top of another vehicle. Law-enforcement officers on the scene stated that at least 118 wheeler truck was involved in the accident. Firefighters responded quickly to put out one auto fire. There were no further reports of any other motor vehicles carrying any hazardous materials.

Emergency first responders were needed To extract one person from a mangled motor vehicle. Law enforcement officers and emergency medical crews work the I-75 accident scene throughout the evening.

According to the Cobb County police department, more than a dozen motor vehicles were involved in the fatal I 75 accident.  Sergeant Delk was unable to provide any other details regarding other people's injuries, with the exception of the one fatality. This victim's identity would not be released prior to a next of kin notification. The cause of the I 75 accident is currently under investigation. However, speed and rain appear to be a factor, according to Sergeant Delk.
