I-85 Blocked in Gwinnett Tuesday After Prison-Bus Accident
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA - A new report published on patch.com states that Interstate 85 was shut down for approximately one hour after a prison transport bus accident.* The accident occurred on I-85 near Sugarloaf Parkway.
One prisoner was injured in the accident and was transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment. The victim's injuries were described are non-life-threatening injuries, according to Gwinnett police spokesperson Corporal Collin Flynn. All other prisoners were moved to a different motor vehicle after the accident, which occurred around 5 am.
The bus involved in the accident is the Phillips State Prison property, which is a medium-security prison in Buford, Georgia. The news report did not provide any additional information about the accident and how the accident occurred. No criminal charges were filed at the time of the news story. The bus accident is currently under investigation by law enforcement.
