Tragic, Deadly Rea-end Collision on Interstate 285 North in Atlanta, Georgia
ATLANTA, GA - A news report on 11alive.com stated that a 41-year-old man from Hiram, Georgia, was tragically killed in a two-vehicle accident along Interstate 285 North.*
According to Franka Young, with the Georgia Department of Public Safety's Public Information Office, the motor vehicle collision happened around 11:20 am. A 2021 Freightliner 18-wheeler tractor-trailer truck was stopped in the left lane of I-285 due to a traffic jam. The location of the accident was between the Martin Luther King Jr. Drive exit and the Cascade Road exit on I-285.
Franka Young reported that a second vehicle, a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by a 41-year-old man from Hiram, was following the truck too closely, and the man struck the rear bumper of the tractor-trailer. Tragically, the victim was pronounced deceased at the accident scene, according to Franka Young.
According to the accident report, traffic along I-285 was blocked in all of its northbound traffic lanes for several hours due to an accident and subsequent investigation. All lanes of I-285 were eventually reopened for all traffic. Law enforcement officials did not provide further accident information. None of the names of those involved in the fatal motor vehicle accident were made public in accordance with Florida's Marsy's law. No criminal charges were filed at the time of the news story. The fatal accident is currently under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.
