Three Bicyclists Hit by a Car in St. Johns County, Florida

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, FL - A news report on news4jax.com reports that a man was tragically killed and two women were severely injured when they all were hit by a car while cycling in St. Johns County, Florida.*

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the crash occurred just after 2:30 in the morning on U.S. 1 by Interstate 95.  Florida Highway Patrol troopers reported that the three bicyclists were cycling in the bicycle lane when a car in the outside lane of U.S. 1 turned to the right and collided with all three cyclists.

The 46-year-old man from Indiana passed away, while the two other bicyclists, a 46-year-old woman from Illinois and a 41-year-old woman from Missouri, were severely injured.  All three were wearing helmets. 

ARGeorgia said that one of the riders was participating in the Sea to Sea race.  The race's organizers said they spent months "vetting the course for safety." and he says he was a bit paranoid about the traffic on U.S. 1 without bike lanes.

It was not reported how the accident occurred or if criminal charges were pending or not.
