Police chase leaves One Dead in Augusta, Georgia
AUGUSTA, GA - A news story posted on wrdw.com reports that one person was tragically killed following a police chase in Augusta, Georgia.*
According to law enforcement officials, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputies were involved in a motor vehicle pursuit along Gordon Highway at around 4 in the morning.
According to law enforcement officials, the driver of the suspect motor vehicle sped through a Sprint gas station parking lot off of Gordon Highway at Barton Chapel Road. The vehicle then collided with the back of a parked 18-wheel tractor-trailer truck. The driver of the automobile required the fire and emergency crews to extricate him from his motor vehicle.
Mark Bowen, the Richmond County Coroner, identified the driver as a 23-year-old man from Augusta. The victim was pronounced deceased at the accident scene at around 5:55 a.m.
The Georgia State Patrol is currently investigating the accident. No further information was provided by law enforcement officers.
