Dallas Police Officer Fatally hit by Alleged Drunk Driver-on US 75
DALLAS, TX - An accident news story published on nbcdfw.com states that a Dallas Police officer was blocking an accident scene when he was hit by a 32-year-old man who was driving at a very "high rate of speed."* The Dallas police officer was directing traffic around an accident scene on Saturday morning.
At around 1:45 in the morning, the Dallas Police officer managed traffic using the emergency lights from his police car along the North Central Expressway's northbound lanes by Walnut Hill Lane. According to the police accident report, a 32-year-old man was driving a Kia at a very high speed and struck the back of the officer's police car, which rammed the patrol car into the officer.
The victim was transported to Baylor University Medical Center, where he tragically passed away.
Dallas Police reports assert that the driver of the Kia was tested and was intoxicated. He is criminal charges, including DWI, intoxication assault due to the passenger in his vehicle, and intoxicated manslaughter on a police officer.
The emergency medical staff evaluated and discharged the driver. His passenger was transported to a local are hospital for an injury to her chest area and a cut on her face. Law enforcement investigators stated that icy or slick roads were not the cause of the accident.
Police said slick and icy roads were not a factor in the crash, and the roadway reopened later Saturday morning.
