Five Tragically Killed in Two Interstate-285 Accidents in DeKalb County, Georgia (GA)
DEKALB COUNTY, GA - An interstate-285 accident news story published on ajc.com reports that a section of I-285 was closed for approximately six hours Monday morning due to two serious accidents.* The Monday morning rush hour crashes occurred by the Moreland Avenue exit along I-285. The accident news story reports that five people were tragically killed in the collisions.
The first I-285 accident closed down the outer loop of I-285 just before the Moreland Avenue exit. The accident happened at around 1:00 in the morning. The I-285 outer loop was closed for about six hours as emergency medical services, and law enforcement managed the crash scene. According to DeKalb police, law enforcement is currently investigating the crash that tragically took the lives of four men. Accident scene investigators shut down all eastbound lanes of I-285 in the area to conduct the preliminary investigation. The eastbound lanes were reopened at around 6:40 in the morning. However, “extreme delays” occurred all along the outer loop.
A second fatal accident occurred on the Lawrenceville Highway. The deadly accident occurred after the I-285 outer loop traffic was rerouted via the Jonesboro Road exit. According to news reports, the traffic flow on I-285 from I-20 to I-85 was delayed by about 95 minutes. Those motorists who cleared the first accident along the outer loop then faced a second collision near Lawrenceville Highway. One man was tragically killed in this accident that happened at around 4 a.m. The news report states that the victim exited his motor vehicle to change a tire and was parked by the median wall. He was then hit by a passing motor vehicle. The victim was rushed to a local area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
None of the accident victims' names have been released. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed. All of the accidents are currently under investigation.
