Man Arrested Following Fatal Accident at His Unlicensed Racetrack

ATLANTA, GA - According to a news story on timesenterprise.com, John King, the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, announced that a 58-year-old man from Cairo was placed under arrested by the Decatur County Sheriff's Office.*  A fatal accident occurred during a race that happened at an unlicensed racetrack that the man operated in Decatur County, Georgia. 

Law enforcement accident investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office were called to a fatal accident at the raceway.  The officials then found out that the Cairo man did not possess the proper licensing that is required to operate the racetrack.  Also, the racetrack did not have an ambulance present during the event where the fatal crash took place.  In addition to these violations, the racetrack did not carry the necessary and appropriate insurance coverage for the racing events held at the racetrack. 

Commissioner King stated that the tragic fatal accident had already cost one person's life, and these issues were discovered by law enforcement investigators and put others at risk.  Commission King stated that he was proud of his office and local law enforcement authorities' hard work to arrest the suspect and send a clear message that safety is our top priority.
